In early December, specialty candy retailer KandJu opened a 1000 square foot location on the perimeter of the new Mega Park at Galeries de la Capitale in Quebec City. This is the eleventh location for the six year old chain. Based is St. Cesaire in Montreal’s South Shore region, KandJu is a retail format by Ludik Candy Designer, an established importer, manufacturer and distributor of a wide selection of confectionery products that was launched by Marie-Ève Gladu and François St-Laurent in 2006. The wholesale company’s products are presently carried by over 3000 independent retail stores across the country as well as its private label lines in several national retailers. Each of the retail stores feature a wide selection of confectionery products from more than 40 manufactures around the world as well as its own candy skewers and cones sold under the Marie & Franky brand name. The various candies are available in bulk quantities in buckets, in self-serve dispensers, etc. The stores also include a limited selection of gourmet food items such as dips, jams, sauces, etc. and gift items. KandJu also operates an on-line component. Expansion is planned for the corporately-owned chain and Manon Parisien at Aurora Realty Consultants is handling the site selection. KandJu is seeking 1000 to 1150 square foot units in regional malls, lifestyle centres and high traffic urban street front sites. At this time the St Jerome, Sherbrooke and Drummondville markets are targeted for future development and the chain is also exploring opportunities for 2020.
