Late in the week, casual apparel retailer Uniqlo confirmed opening dated for is previously announced Fall openings. The chain’s fourth store in British Columbia will open in the Coquitlam Centre in Coquitlam on September 14th and will occupy more than 12,000 square feet. Following this, on September 28th, a unit with a sales floor over 20,000 square feet opens at Vaughan Mills, in Vaughan, north of Toronto. On October 12th, a unit of about 15,000 square feet opens in CF Markville in Markham followed on November 2nd with a unit at Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga, also in the 15,000 square foot range. The Uniqlo stores feature the innovative functional apparel and quality wardrobe staples for men, women and children. The stores include the brand’s signature collections including AIRism, HEATTECH, Cashmere and Ultra Light Down, etc. The new stores will also offer its All-Product Recycling Initiative in which customers can drop off gently used Uniqlo clothing in bins for donation to those in need. Jeffrey Berkowitz at Aurora Realty Consultants Inc. has been retained to assist in the company’s Canadian expansion. The Uniqlo stores will operate in 15,000 to 40,000 square foot mall and high street locations. Uniqlo is a brand owned by Fast Retailing Co. Ltd., a Japanese holding company that designs, manufactures and sells clothing under several brands. The company has more than 2000 stores in 19 markets worldwide. Also in early August, Uniqlo launched a mobile e-commerce which will allow people outside Toronto and Vancouver to shop Uniqlo in Canada for the wide range of Uniqlo LifeWear clothing suitable for all lifestyles. Shopping mobile e-commerce allows people to purchase extended sizes on core items in sizes XXS to 2XL. The company entered the Canadian market in Fall 2016 and presently there are two stores operating in Toronto and three in greater Vancouver.
