After extensive renovations, Birks Group has opened its new Maison Birks flagship on Square Phillips in downtown Montreal. With contemporary touches and modern fixtures, the new design enhances the original architectural details of the store built in 1894. The 7700 square foot unit reflects the company’s latest design with in-store boutiques by several fine jewellery brands such as Chaumet, Messika and Van Cleef & Arpels in addition to Birks Collections. Luxury timepiece boutiques Rolex, Cartier, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Breitling and Tag Heuer are also in the new store. In addition, the comfortable Birks Bridal Bar presents a new experience when shopping for diamond engagement rings or wedding bands. The new Maison Birks store at 620 St. Catherines St. West is located on the ground floor of the soon-to-open Hotel Birks boutique hotel. Birks Group Inc. has been especially active since selling its Mayor’s Jeweller subsidiary about nine months ago. Having previously introduced its monobrand format in Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto, the chain has opened several of the smaller units across Canada. Birks Group Inc. operates 28 Maison Birks stores across Canada that carry some of the world’s leading jewellery and timepiece brands as well as a Brinkhaus location in Calgary, Alberta and a Graff & Patek Philippe boutique in Vancouver, British Columbia. Jeffrey Berkowitz at Aurora Realty Consultants Inc. handles the real estate in Canada for the Birks Group. The traditional stores are in the larger malls and high street location in units up to 2500 square feet and the monobrand stores are in a 800 to 1200 square foot range.
