In 2015, Jon Cheung, the former strength and conditioning coach with the Edmonton Eskimo CFL club and former fitness and training specialist with Edmonton Police Services, opened the first Evolve Strength strength and fitness facility on 89th St NW in South Edmonton. The unit combined the gym format with a number of professional services for those looking to live a healthier and more active lifestyle. Then during 2018, Evolve Strength underwent a major expansion adding a location in Northwest Edmonton on 149th St. NW immediately followed by a 25,000 square foot location on 102nd Ave NW and 124th St in the former Mountain Equipment Co-op location in the city’s downtown. Then, later in the year, the chain entered the Calgary market with a location on 23rd Ave NE in the city’s Sunridge area. A franchise concept, Evolve Strength creates strength-focused facilities that offer the best equipment to enable members to train with no limitation as well as providing a variety of health professionals all under one roof. Evolve Strength provides health professionals and personal trainers. The sites are set up to allow any health and wellness professional the opportunity to run their own business while providing them the support needed to grow. The services provided range from massage therapy, physiotherapy, chiropractic, nutrition, psychology, athletic therapy, personal training, and others to provide the most diverse team of professionals available in one location. Along with its current four locations, the company’s franchise program is targeting expansion in British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba as well as Alberta. Evolve Strength has retained Perri Zimmerman of Aurora Realty Consultants for growth in the British Columbia market. Ideal locations run from 15,000 to 30,000 square feet in street front and power centre locations with strong vehicular and pedestrian traffic along with high visibility.
